Stress may be really destructive to the body. Most of us know this but it is often one of those things just brush off. Short-term stress can motivate some of us to produce our best work. Although long-term stress may have a negative effect our bodies. Especially relevant is that it may be one of the underlying causes of most healthy symptoms and conditions.
What Stress May Cause
Adrenal glands produce chemical messengers, including cortisol during stressful situations. Along with other chemical messengers, in our body, they may contribute to many health conditions including;
Neurological; anxiety, poor concentration, excessive worry, insomnia, depression, and exhaustion.
Immunity; inflammation, increased risk of infection, predisposition to allergies, eczema, frequent colds, and flu.
Metabolic; insulin resistance, and obesity.
Musculoskeletal; muscular tension, and tension headaches.
Reproductive; loss of sex drive or increased sex drive, and irregular periods.
Digestion; digestive cramping, IBS, food intolerances, hypochlorhydria, and bloating.
Cardiovascular; palpitations, high blood pressure, and clammy palms.
Flicking The Stress Switch Off
Most noteworthy is to nourish the body with healthy food.
Reduce pro-inflammatory foods.
Increase healthy fats in your diet.
Improve the quality and quantity of sleep. Visualized savasana I find helpful.
Practice meditation, yoga, guided visualization and/or breathing techniques.
Maybe set boundaries in relationships, families, and work.
Get support from friends, family, and colleagues. Talking and sharing your problem works wonders.
In conclusion, I find downward facing dog (Adho Mukha Svanasana), as seen in the image, relaxes the mind and body. Furthermore, ‘downward facing dog’ has other benefits including; Calming the brain and helps relieve stress and mild depression. Energize the body. Stretches the shoulders, hamstrings, calves, arches, and hands. Relieve the symptoms of menopause. Prevent osteoporosis. Improves digestion. Relieves insomnia, back pain, and fatigue. Therapeutic for high blood pressure, asthma, flat feet, sciatica, sinusitis.
Especially relevant is continually nourishing my mind and body. Good laughs, I find is pure medicine for stress. For clients presenting burnout, fatigue and exhaustion conditions, I suggest a nutritional program. Cleansing is incredibly effective for these conditions. I also love a herbal tonic full of adaptogen herbs. Adaptogen herbs modulate the effects of stress.
