Pregnancy health tips continue to evolve. Pregnancy is a time we make a significant nutritional investment in the development and health of ourselves and our baby. Evidence continues to grow that the nutritional choices we make when expecting influences our babies health. Sound nutrition is of utmost importance for an expectant mother, and her baby. Apparently, a healthy diet may also shape the babies food preference later in life.
Pregnancy Health Tips With Wholefoods
Eat regularly to maintain energy levels throughout the day. This may also prevent morning sickness.
Don’t overeat as large meals can drain energy. Instead of eating three big meals try eating six small meals to spread your food intake more evenly. This will help keep blood sugar and insulin levels more constant.
Create nutritious low glycemic load mini-meals with adequate protein and healthy fats.
Quality protein including; quinoa, nuts, seeds, eggs, cheese, chicken, grass-fed beef, oily fish, legumes, lamb, and spirulina.
Healthy fats including; nuts, seeds, extra virgin olive oil, coconut oil, sardines, mackerel, and salmon. If you are unable to eat healthy fats I suggest supplementing with a good quality fish oil supplement. Omega 3 (DHA) supplementation during pregnancy has been shown to support the babies neurological and immune development. Omega 3 may also improve coordination, and reduce allergy.
Increasing good quality fresh vegetables and low glycemic fruit at each meal.
Enjoy foods rich in iron including red meat.
No alcohol and smoking and reduce or avoid caffeine intake.
Multivitamin and mineral specifically for pregnancy.
Moderate exercise, massage, a manageable workload and stress management are also essential to maintaining a healthy pregnancy.
Of course, loads of good vibes and I found yoga exceptionally helpful.
